Where the two actually differ.
One flat plan up to 100 people, or three tiers priced by employee band.
Ashby publishes a single number for companies up to 100 employees: Foundations at $400 a month, with Plus and Enterprise quoted above that. Workable publishes three tiers and prices each one by employee band, so a 1 to 20 person company sees Workable Standard at $299 a month and a larger company reads its own band's figure for the same plan. If you are near a band boundary, price Workable at the band you expect to be in next year, and price Ashby once.
Structured interviewing is on the entry plan of both.
Ashby gives you per-stage interview plans with interviewer instructions and feedback forms. Workable gives you interview kits and scorecards attached to a stage, with feedback collected on the candidate profile. Neither holds it back for a higher tier. The difference is what sits around it: Ashby bundles sourcing lookups and SMS into the entry plan, and Workable bundles a candidate database and Core HR tools.
AI on a monthly meter, or AI on a purchased balance.
Ashby meters AI with a credit allotment that renews: 1,500 a month on Foundations and per-seat annual amounts above that, with AI Notetaker as a paid add-on. Workable gives each paid account 3,000 credits to start and sells packs from $600 for 5,000 credits, spent per candidate screened, per passive candidate identified, and per chat interaction, and the credits expire after a year. If you expect to run AI screening on every applicant, ask each vendor what a month of your volume costs.
Both publish an MCP path for outside AI tools.
Ashby lists an MCP server on every plan on its pricing page, naming ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor. Workable documents its MCP server in the help center on all plans, with OAuth2 sign-in and both read and write operations. For a team that already runs Claude Code or Codex for its admin, the practical questions are the same for both: which actions are write actions, who can connect, and what the audit trail shows. Both vendors also list a public API on every plan.
If neither fits: a third option.
If the hiring manager runs the interview loop, and you want the interview designed for the role before anyone is scheduled, Yardstick is built for that shape.
Yardstick designs the interview guide and scorecard for the role you are hiring, so every candidate has the same important conversation, is scored on the same scale, and the interview produces evidence about who will perform in this job. The AI drafts the guide and the scorecard; your team edits them and makes every hiring decision. Interviewers open the guide on a magic link, with no paid seats to buy. Structured interviews, scorecards, a talent CRM, and the public API are on every account, including the free one.
The agent path is your own agent. You chat with Claude Code or Codex, it runs the yardstick CLI, and the actions that matter wait for your approval: publishing a job, advancing or rejecting a candidate, emailing one. Claude and ChatGPT can connect over MCP on every account, free included.
Yardstick pricing is published: the first three Jobs are free, then Yardstick Core is $49 a month plus $29 per open role, billed monthly, and Yardstick Scale is $149 a month plus $19 per open role. Interviewers and hiring managers are never charged as seats.
Yardstick is not an HRIS, and it is not built for a thousand-person organization standardizing a global process. SSO, SCIM, and audit logs are on the Enterprise plan.

Common questions about Ashby vs Workable.
Is Ashby or Workable cheaper?
It depends on your headcount and the plan you need. Ashby Foundations is $400 a month for companies up to 100 employees. Workable Standard is $299 a month for the 1 to 20 employee band, and Workable prices each employee band separately, so a 51 to 100 person company should read the figure for its own band. Both publish their numbers, so you can price your own company from each vendor's page.
Do both Ashby and Workable have structured interviews and scorecards?
Yes, on every plan of each. Ashby's pricing page lists Interview Plans and Structured Interviewing on Foundations, Plus, and Enterprise, with interviewer instructions and feedback forms. Workable's pricing page lists interview kits and scorecards and multi-part interviews on Standard, Premier, and Enterprise.
Which has better AI, Ashby or Workable?
We do not rank them. Ashby ships AI Content Assistant, AI Assisted Application Review, and Ashby Assistant in Slack on every plan, metered by a monthly or per-seat credit allotment, with AI Notetaker as a paid add-on. Workable ships Workable Agent as an addition to any plan, which Workable says sources, screens, and qualifies candidates, with 3,000 free credits and purchased packs after that. The practical difference is how the meter works: a renewing allotment at Ashby and a purchased balance at Workable.
Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to Ashby or Workable?
Both vendors publish an MCP path. Ashby lists an MCP Server for AI workflows on every plan and names ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor. Workable's help center describes a Workable MCP server on all plans, with OAuth2 sign-in, named support for Claude and Cursor, and any MCP-compatible tool, supporting read and write operations. Both also list a public API on every plan, as read on September 4, 2026.
Which is better for a startup or small team?
Ashby publishes one plan sized for companies up to 100 employees. Workable publishes a 1 to 20 employee band on each of its three tiers and a 15-day trial of Standard. For a team where the hiring manager runs the interview loop and wants the interview designed for the role, Yardstick is a third option with published pay-as-you-go pricing and the first three Jobs free.
How current is this comparison?
